my first published story…
…was back in 1982 when I was 15 and a Dungeons-and-Dragons playing troll junior in high school. The publication venue was the famous but forgotten Grenadier Bulletin (“Circulation over 6000″!), the bimonthly newsletter of Grenadier Miniatures. They made lead figurines for role-playing games; yes, back in 1982 we used to melt toxic heavy metals in hot crucibles in cramped basements for fun. My ‘story’ — such as it was, really just a long joke with a punchline only a nerd could appreciate, if not love — had entirely slipped my mind until a Google vanity search revealed it to me in all its typewritten, mimeographed glory. Mind you, this means that someone out there took the time to save, scan, and post the Grenadier Bulletin on the Internet. Actually, more than one person did this. Everything is now on the ‘Net, folks.
Without further shame, I present to you “Eye-dol Tale, or More Nerd’s Words”!
